Reflecting on my Digital Identity
Googling Myself
By using the largest search engine - Google, I am able to find myself in the top hits from the search result. One of them are from my YouTube account and another of them are my Autodesk account. Both of them can be found in google simply by typing in " Ooi Yeuan Yang " in the search box. This is showing a good sign to me as personally I prefer to have less hits, which is true, this is because being search online without me knowing it is uncomfortable. But speaking of that, having a more hits in google does not necessarily is a bad thing, for an example, if your work requires a certain amount of reputation, like celebrities, having a large amount of hits can definitely help them to make a fortune, or even if ordinary people like us wants to find a job, it can be a advantage for us to as the interviewer can access our achievement online. The only thing I prefer is all my personal information should stay as private as possible because this having people to know the privacy would be a disadvantage for you.
Social media is one of the most important factor on the internet, people share their daily life there. I as well own a Facebook account, but I am not a active user. I have not use Facebook for years so all the post in my profile are years ago. Back to the time when I was a daily Facebook user, I do not care about my privacy, all my posts are visible and all the comments were public. I would not feel embarrassed if any of the posts or pictures are shared among my friend or my future colleagues. In my opinion, all the pictures are cute and appropriate so it is fine if they wants to access my posts.
Privacy settings and tidying up
As I mentioned, all my posts and everything I wrote were accessible to the public. It is fine for people to access them. I prefer not to link my social media with other social media, but I do not mind if my Facebook is link to other game apps, I link tons of game apps to my Facebook account. Also, I am not special compare to other so I believe even if some of my privacy is exposed online I think the chance for the public to find it is minor, so if other applications were bought by other company I would not really care about it.
